The newest design from Swallow Yachts

First look:  – wood -epoxy ply 32 footer

Nature’s finest carbon fibre has a lot going for it.

It’s strong, light and, thanks to modern technology, at least as maintenance free as a GRP boat.

More importantly, wood is literally carbon sucked from the air, so the environmental impact of using wood is far lower than with any other widely used production material.

Epoxy bio-resins, cork decks, and an optional electric propulsion system mean she probably has the smallest environmental cost of any new production yacht in the world.

“Small boat specialist Swallow Yachts is venturing above 30ft for a sailing boat for the first time with the new Swallow 32, and it’s also returning to its roots with wood-epoxy construction.”

About our new design

She is the ideal boat for those looking to downsize, retaining comfortable accommodation and sailing performance, but in a more manageable and economic size.

With her lifting keel, you can edge in close to the beach or explore estuaries and shallows that are off limits to most.

And with her well proven water ballast system she really is a highly versatile boat. Fill the ballast tank in stronger winds or with nervous crew; empty them for off-wind thrills or light wind performance.

Design Features

Swallow Yachts are fanatical about keeping weight down aloft and the BayCruiser 32 features a carbon main mast, boom and spreaders. Her generous sail plan and fully battened mainsail, together with the large changes in mass that water ballast affords means she will be stiff and quick under sail. A large asymmetric spinnaker flown from a retractable bowsprit adds down-wind pace. However, the main and self-tacking jib sheets both lead back to the helm, meaning single handed sailing will be a pleasure.

Another stand-out feature is her large cockpit which provides a comfortable seating and lounging area for extended day sailing.

A fold down transom platform gives easy access to the water for swimming while the sunken side decks and substantial forward bulwarks mean foredeck work is safer and easier.

Down below she has a huge vee berth, a comfortable saloon and a small double under the cockpit. A large heads with full standing headroom to port and a galley to starboard provide the essential amenities that make life on board more comfortable.

Her standard engine is a 25HP Yamaha outboard, sitting in a soundproofed engine well under the cockpit sole. This is fully raised (electrically) when sailing for minimal drag. An electric propulsion system will be an option.
